Early Life

Rosalyn Brinkwater was born May 4th, 1996 to Raymond Brinkwater and Ramona Mensah. A few years after Rosalyn was born, Ramona disappeared suddenly. Her father did everything he could to find her, but eventually she was presumed deceased. Rosalyn was too young to remember much about her mother when she went missing. She continued to live with her dad and her brother Roscoe. The family ended up moving towns. For the most part, Rosalyn and her brother grew up in a stable, middle class household.

She met Annie Edwards when her father had her enrolled in a new preschool. Annie's headstrong personality and brashness drew the young girl to her. When the two of them got in trouble and were punished by their teacher, a friendship blossomed between them. They've gone to the same schools all their lives.

Rosalyn's middle school years were rather uneventful.

Freshman Year - Berry High

Rosalyn started high school and went to Berry High. There, she met a boy named Aiden Zhou. She wasn't particularly an instrument player but she could sing and one day she started showing up in the band room while he practiced on his own to duet with him. They started to bond and grow feelings for each other. She asked him out to homecoming and they started dating soon after.

A girl named Jocelyn Nguyen transferred to Berry in the spring and quickly became one of the popular kids. For some reason, she didn't like Rosalyn despite her attempts to befriend the girl and make her feel welcome in the school. Jocelyn soon made it her mission to make Rosalyn's life at Berry miserable. Rosalyn’s attempts to get help from others backfired on her and usually made things worse. Jocelyn would constantly tell Rosalyn that Aiden didn't actually like her, trying to get into her head. She threatened to do worse with Aiden if Rosalyn ever told him about what Jocelyn was doing. She clammed up whenever Aiden asked her if everything was ok, at times snapping at him when he gently pressed her. Her relationship with Aiden suffered in the months that followed, both of them trying to make it work but they couldn't get past the obvious strain on their relationship. Nevertheless, Rosalyn kept her head up and tried to enjoy school life the best that she could and avoided Jocelyn as much as she could.

Things came to a head when Jocelyn locked Rosalyn in the dark janitor's closet with the spiders from the science lab for several minutes. Then, when she managed to escape, someone shoved her and she tripped and fell into a suspiciously placed trash can in front of a bunch of her classmates. Rosalyn left school early that day, humiliated. Aiden never found out about what truly happened because he was absent on that day. He did, unfortunately, see the viral video of Rosalyn falling into a trash can.

Aiden came over to her house to talk to her a few days after the incident because he was concerned about Rosalyn missing school. He assured her that an embarrassing moment at school wasn't the end of the world and that he was here for her if she needed anything from him. When he realized it wasn't just the earlier incident that was upsetting her, he gently pressed her for answers. Rosalyn refused to tell him what was wrong and broke up with him in a panic. When she found out Aiden was dating Jocelyn now, she left the school and never came back.

Sophomore Year- Lakeside High

Now, Dr. Brinkwater happened to be in the process of opening a new school on an empty lot in town. When Rosalyn refused to return to Berry High, he suggested that she be the very first student to attend the new school. To cheer her up, he let her have a lot of creative control over how the school would be built and what it would look like. This was a new start for Rosalyn, a chance to remake herself. She refused to let anyone else ever push her around like Jocelyn did ever again. She became a little meaner because of it. Rosalyn pretty much runs the school on her own, handling admissions, helping out students, all while juggling the many trials and tribulations of high school.

Sophomore year, Rosalyn's been trying to keep herself busy with helping build Lakeside to distract from her love life. She ends up in a few sort of "relationships" with Autumn and later her childhood friend Annie. Neither of these "relationships" had a defined beginning or end, they kind of sort of phased in and out. She's still close friends with both of them, but it's kind of stuck with Rosalyn that things have changed between them. It was around this time Rosalyn became vaguely aware of her (deeply repressed) feelings for girls.

In the spring of 2015, she met a girl named Hannah on her ranch when her friends were visiting to get a horse. Rosalyn invited her to join her school, and she accepted. She enrolled within the week and got to know some of her friends. Rosalyn spent a lot of time at Hannah's ranch after that, helping her out, having fun with the horses on the field, spending nights watching the sunset as they leaned onto each other. Unlike with Annie and Autumn, she and Hannah had actually kissed a few times, Hannah referring to Rosalyn as her girl and "doll". Rosalyn had convinced herself that this was normal and completely platonic between friends

However, in the middle of the summer, Hannah wanted to get serious and make things official. Rosalyn panicked and awkwardly shut her down, turning it into a joke even. She started avoiding Hannah after that, not answering her calls, pretending to be away or out of the house whenever Hannah visited her, etc. Although Dr.Brinkwater was not aware of the nature of their relationship he did know she was avoiding Hannah and urged her to speak to Hannah. So one day, Hannah asked to talk at her ranch, and Rosalyn went to meet her there. Hannah called Rosalyn out on not treating their relationship seriously, Rosalyn blamed it on her not figuring out herself but Hannah was not having it and they more or less broke up because of it. To this day, it is very awkward between them at school now.

Junior Year - Lakeside High

At the start of her junior year, she found out that there were elections for student district council and Rosalyn wanted to run. Her friend Wes introduced her to Ace de la Cruz, who would become her campaign manager and later senior advisor on the council.

While she'd gotten over Hannah and Aiden, she still felt guilty for the way things ended with both of them and how her fears and insecurities ended up sabotaging what could have been a great long term relationship with either of them. So when she met Ace and started to fall for him, she went into things with a determination to hold her ground and not let her inhibitions ruin another relationship.

Things were great until the evening the Hamilton Internship winner was announced. He'd heard wind of a tiny faction forming at Lakeside and decided to warn Rosalyn about it. The two continued to talk at the gala, Rosalyn assuring him that he would win the internship, Ace talking about his plans for the future involving her… and them sharing a kiss.

And then he lost the internship to a student at Rosalyn’s school. Ace spent the next few months working to get Lakeside shut down as revenge. To Rosaln, this was someone she loved betraying her for the crime of starting a new school. Someone who, despite everything, still cared deeply about and wanted to make amends with (even if she believes she did nothing wrong, she still feels bad for the hurt that Ace felt). Which is why she ultimately doesn't go through with her and other's plan to humiliate him and get him sent away.

When Rosalyn decides to confront Ace at his house, Mrs. de la Cruz assumes Rosalyn and Ace are (still) dating, which neither Ace nor Rosalyn outright denies. After dinner he confronts her, to which Rosalyn brings up how close they were before, and how it had to have meant something to him. She gently held his hands in hers as they spoke, only for Ace to pull away at the end, claiming it was too late.

However, this turned out to be a lie as Ace turned himself in, stopped the school from being shut down, and got a district wide expulsion as a result. Through Rosalyn's kindness (and her unresolved feelings for Ace), she offered him a real place at Lakeside.

When Ace first started out at Lakeside as an actual student, they decided to have a talk about their relationship going forward. Rosalyn acknowledged that while she still has feelings for Ace despite everything, she feels it would be best for the two of them to remain friends for a while as they work on regaining trust between each other. They eventually start dating again months later.

Family

Ramona Mensah - Mother

Rosalyn doesn't know much about her mother aside from the fact that she apparently disappeared when she was very young. Rosalyn suspects foul play but says nothing to avoid upsetting her father and brother. She tried to investigate on her own but eventually gave up when all her leads brought her to dead ends and false alarms.

Raymond Brinkwater - Father

Dr. Brinkwater is Rosalyn's father. He is the one who decided a school would open on an empty plot of land and that Rosalyn would get to build the school as she likes. He is incredibly doting on her but Rosalyn insists on wanting to be independent instead of always relying on her dad for help. He often doesn't know of the various misadventures Rosalyn gets up to with her friends because of this. It would probably break his heart.

Roscoe Brinkwater - Older Brother

Roscoe is a student at Hollywood U and Rosalyn's brother. He and Rosalyn do not interact often due to Roscoe being very busy with his various projects, which makes Rosalyn a little sad. Nevertheless, Rosalyn cares for her brother dearly and always writes to him while he's away at school, telling him all about the various misadventures she has at Lakeside Prep (the legal parts, anyways).

Crash Yamaguchi - Brother in Law

Students

Anastasia Edwards - Best Friend

Annie is Rosalyn's childhood friend. They met in preschool and have been inseparable ever since. Annie is fiercely protective of Rosalyn and would do anything to keep her away from the people who hurt her. (Which is why she's initially wary of Ace when he transfers to Rosalyn's school, even more so when Rosalyn befriends him again and eventually becomes his girlfriend). She went to Berry High with Rosalyn and stayed there for part of her junior year before she transferred to Lakeside to be with Rosalyn. She used to have a crush on Rosalyn but got over it and started dating someone else.

Autumn Brooks - Good Friend

Autumn is the first person Rosalyn meets on the first day Lakeside Prep is supposed to open. She is also one of the first students that enrolled in Lakeside. The two are very close.

Bartholomew "Ace" De La Cruz - Boyfriend

Ace used to be her campaign manager and senior advisor when Rosalyn ran for student district council. They worked together as close allies before someone from Lakeside Prep won the national internship Ace was working for. As revenge, he tried to get Rosalyn's school closed down but Rosalyn manages to talk him out of it. This came at the cost of Ace getting a district wide expulsion. He was set to be sent to a boarding school in Manila but Rosalyn decides to let Ace enroll at Lakeside Prep. The two have been working on repairing their relationship and eventually started dating months later. Since they've started dating, Ace is incredibly doting on Rosalyn. She adores him too. More about their relationship can be found in Rosalyn’s story section!

Mia Warren - Best Friend

Mia was initially antagonistic towards Rosalyn and her friends. However, when it came out that Mia was helping the Lakeside students avoid Hearst High's pranks, Rosalyn let her enroll at Lakeside. She helps Mia make amends with the people she hurt back at Hearst and eventually became good friends with them. Out of all Rosalyn's friends, Mia is the closest to Rosalyn due to their love of shopping and similar personalities. Rosalyn considers Mia like a little sister to her (much to Max's chagrin).

Payton Saunders -Best Friend

Payton befriends Rosalyn after she helps Rosalyn throw a party at her school. The two are typically seen shopping together. At parties, one is rarely seen without the other (unless one of them is playing Seven Minutes in Heaven, that's an exception).

Wes Porter - Close Friend

Rosalyn initially didn't trust Wes, even when she had him enrolled in her school. But the more time they spent together, the more Rosalyn got to know Wes. Wes is typically the one who checks on Rosalyn the most when she's feeling down.

Aiden Zhou - Ex Boyfriend

Rosalyn and Aiden used to date at Rosalyn's old high school. She broke up with him unexpectedly and transferred after a particularly bad experience with a bully and could not tell him what happened. To this day, Aiden misses Rosalyn and wishes he knew why she ended their relationship so suddenly.

Hannah Palmer - Ex Girlfriend

While not official, Rosalyn entered a relationship with Hannah in the summer of her soh3homore year. She was in heavy denial of her bisexuality at the time and convinced herself that the things she and Hannah did together were purely platonic. When Hannah wanted to make things official, Rosalyn nervously shoots her down, effectively spoiling the relationship between them to this day.

Jocelyn Nguyen - Sworn Enemy

Jocelyn was Rosalyn's bully at her old high school. She used to pick on Rosalyn a lot, following her around at school to taunt her, dumping trash on her, and encouraging her friends to torment her. Eventually, the bullying got so bad that Rosalyn missed a lot of school near the end of the year just to avoid her. Jocelyn is currently dating Rosalyn's ex Aiden Zhou.

Oona Nguyen - Acquaintance

Rosalyn doesn’t know much about Oona aside from her being Annie’s girlfriend. She doesn’t even know she and Jocelyn are cousins!

Jackson Lee Parker - Stranger

(Subject to change). Rosalyn has not interacted with Jackson at the time of writing this.

Kara Sinclair - Frenemy

Rosalyn thinks Kara is an airhead, and Kara finds Rosalyn to be stuck up. After breaking up with Max, however, Kara is working towards becoming a better person and repairing her relationship with Rosalyn.

Max Warren - Sworn Enemy

From day 1, Rosalyn and Max have been at odds, and will likely remain that way until graduation. Perhaps even longer. Rosalyn is only willing to team up with him to take down a common enemy.

Shane Ayotunde - Close Friend

After convincing Shane to ditch Kara and the Hearst cheerleaders, Rosalyn welcomes him to Lakeside’s cheerleading squad with open arms and helps him blend in with the rest of the team within a few days. She made him the cheer squad’s official choreographer, which he appreciates greatly.

Fibikemi "Phoebe" Ayotunde - Close Friend

Rosalyn encourages Fibikemi to come out from her shell and be her true self. While this costs her competition she was involved in, Fibikemi is forever grateful to Rosalyn for helping her embrace who she really was instead of hiding behind a palatable facade. While Fibikemi remains at Hearst High, she and Rosalyn keep in touch and hang out sometimes.

Kallie Owens - Close Friend

Rosalyn befriends Kallie when she first starts off as a new student in her English class. Through going on adventures with her childhood friend to participating in an open mic, the two grew close together. Kallie is still a bit too reserved to join Rosalyn’s group of besties, but Rosalyn hopes that she’ll come around to hanging around her best friends in the future.

Katherine Bui - Close Friend

Having known how it feels to be relentlessly targeted by someone who makes others miserable for kicks, Rosalyn grew incredibly protective of Katherine. This comes off as smothering at times, but the two are great friends nonetheless.

Asher Rollins - Annoyance

Rosalyn dislikes him for how he treated Julian's sister and holds a grudge against him. She finds him stuck up and hard to work with. He flirts with her, despite knowing she's dating Ace. This annoys her to no end.

Other

Jack Carver - Despised

Rosalyn thinks Jack is a creep and is violently repulsed at the idea of talking or even interacting with him.

Professor Edwin - Disliked

Rosalyn tries her best to impress Lakeside’s principal, but it never seems to work. She doesn’t know why Professor Edwin continues to hold a grudge against her, but she gives up on trying to make things work and focuses on building up her school.
